This is a tremendous accomplishment, particularly in light of the challenging year we, as a country just endured. I stand before you with tremendous gratitude and admiration for every single one of my fellow Bahamians who have showed the world the true meaning of resilience.

“Ladies and Gentlemen good morning: Thank you for your invitation to address the Annual Business Outlook. The Business Outlook, which is now approaching its third decade, has become one of the major business conferences in The Bahamas. This year, we gather under unprecedented circumstances following the most devastating hurricane in the nation’s history.

While the effects of the global climate emergency have been gathering pace for decades, Hurricane Dorian has helped to dramatize the existential threat of climate change to The Bahamas. In this context, this morning I wish to address the progress we are making in the recovery and the rebuilding of Abaco, the Abaco Cays, and Grand Bahama.

Airlift to Major Bahamas Destinations Increases to Accommodate Visitor Demand

Fort Lauderdale, FL, December, 2019 – As The Islands Of The Bahamas continue to push its “15 Islands Open for Business” message in the wake of Hurricane Dorian, the country continues to see an increase in airlift to three of its major destinations making it increasingly easy for visitors to travel from cities across the U.S. and Canada to enjoy a Bahamas vacation.
 
The Islands of Abaco and Grand Bahama, in the North West Bahamas, were both devastated by the recent catastrophic Hurricane Dorian (September 2019), however, Grand Bahama Island is recovering speedily and therefore, The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation, continues with the message that 15 of the country’s 16 Islands developed for the business of Tourism, are open and are ready to welcome visitors.

Return of Sunwing to Grand Bahama — Restart of International Flights to the Island

FREEPORT, Grand Bahama — Grand Bahama’s tourism got a big boost on Saturday and when Sunwing Airlines made its official return to the island, since Hurricane Dorian.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Hon. K. Peter Turnquest; Minister of State for Grand Bahama Senator the Hon. Kwasi Thompson; Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources, the Hon. Michael Pintard; Minister of State for Disaster Preparedness, Management and Reconstruction, the Hon. Iram Lewis; newly-appointed General Manager of Tourism for Grand Bahama, Stephen Johnson, along with other tourism and government officials, were all on hand on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at the refurbished FBO building at Grand Bahama airport, to welcome the Sunwing flight into Freeport.

“This is an exciting day for Grand Bahama,” said Minister Thompson. “This is a major step in the revival of this island’s economy.”
