In keeping with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Bahamas’s commitment to provide efficient, quality customer service, the Ministry is pleased to launch eVISA Services. The Ministry will extend its services for Sponsored Visas in the future.

VISA ENTRY TYPES & COSTS
single entry visa is valid for one entry only to The Bahamas with the time frame of three (3) months.
multiple entry visa is valid for multiple entries to The Bahamas for periods of three (3) months, six (6) months and one (1) year.
However, the applicant must provide scanned copies of three (3) previous successful visas to The Bahamas as supporting documents.

PLEASE NOTE: All persons must present the passport used to apply for the visa and the Electronic Entry Visa (EEV) to the Immigration Officer on arrival in The Bahamas.

Canadian Citizens

Canadian citizens DO NOT require a visa to visit The Bahamas and may remain for a maximum period of 8 months.

All travelers must have the following items:

  1. A Canadian passport, with an expiry date that is NOT less than 3 months, after leaving The Bahamas (for direct travel) and NOT less than 6 months (if transiting through other countries such as the U.S.)
  2. A return ticket
  3. Confirmed hotel or cruise reservation; or letter of invitation to stay at host’s home

Where a minor child is traveling with only one parent, a notarized letter of permit from the parent not travelling may be requested.


Canadian Permanent Residents

Permanent Residents of Canada (formerly known as Landed Immigrants) may stay in The Bahamas for 30 days without a visa.

All travelers must have the following items:

  1. A valid passport from your country of origin of which expiry date, after return from The Bahamas, must NOT be less than 3 months (for direct travel) and NOT less than 6 months (if transiting through other countries such as the U.S.)
  2. An original Canadian Permanent Resident card of which the expiry date must NOT be less than 3 months (for direct travel) and NOT less than 6 months (if transiting through other countries such as the U.S.)
  3. A return ticket
  4. Confirmed hotel or cruise reservation; or letter of invitation to stay at host’s home


Refugees with Canadian Travel Documents

The Canadian Travel Document may be used in lieu of a National Passport for entry into The Bahamas provided the expiry date, after return from The Bahamas is NOT less than 3 months (for direct travel) and NOT less than 6 months (if transiting through other countries such as the U.S.)

A Bahamian visa may be required based on the origin country of the traveler. Please review countries which require a visa to enter The Bahamas to determine eligibility.

Please note that travelers holding a valid Canadian Permanent Residence Card do NOT require a visa to enter The Bahamas.

​Travelers who do not have a valid Permanent Residence Card and require a visa must submit a visa application for processing. Please visit “General Visa Requirements” for an application form and a list of all supplementary documents required.

Canadian travel document holders transiting through other countries must call the relevant embassies for information regarding traveling with a travel document.

Canadian Citizens, Permanent Residents, and Canadian refugees transiting through other countries, such as the United States, should contact the relevant embassies regarding their entry/visa requirements for that country.


Extending Your Stay

Any visitor wishing to extend their stay in The Bahamas, is advised to contact their nearest Bahamian Immigration Office.

Documentation to be submitted upon request:

  1. Proof that you can financially sustain yourself for the extended period;
  2. A valid passport or travel document.
  3. A return ticket.

Processing Time

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO OBTAIN A VISA?

The standard processing time for an eVISA is 7-10 business days, not including the submission date and providing that all supporting documents are in order at the time of your initial submission and no interview is required.

Applicants may be interviewed  at their selected visa office in the “Preferred Appointment” details section of the online portal.

Where necessary, applicants will be directed to another Bahamas Overseas Office by email.

Diplomatic, Foreign and Government Staff Visa Requirements

Failure to submit all requested documents will result in the delay/return of application until all requirements are met. 

There are two types of visa which could be issued to the foreign officials and diplomatic staff of diplomatic/ consular missions and international organizations:

  • Official/diplomatic visa – gratis
  • Tourist visa – visa fee paid by the applicant

Original Passport must be submitted at the time of application to complete processing.

Official/Diplomatic Visa

Diplomatic staff members of diplomatic/consular missions and international organizations accredited to Canada, and Government officials are eligible for a gratis visa if they are attending an official event or travelling on a working visit to the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.

Required Documents

  • Diplomatic Note outlining:
    • The name(s) of the traveller(s)
    • The date of departure from Canada
    • The reason for the journey, a copy of the invitation letter is to be included
    • The date of return to Canada
  • Letter of Invitation from Organizers of official event outlining:
    • The name of the travelling officer
    • The itinerary of the travelling officer
    • The date and location of event
      • Those travelling on working visit must submit a letter from host outlining work period in The Bahamas

Accompanying family members who are not formally invited to the event must apply for a tourist visa, if required.

  • Proof of Return: Confirmed airline itinerary in the applicant’s name.
  • Original Passport: Original Passport must be submitted at the time of application to complete processing.  The expiry date of the passport must be not be under 3 months after returning from The Bahamas if travelling direct from Canada; and 6 months after returning from The Bahamas if travelling in transit through United States.
  • Proof of Canadian Status: Applicant must provide proof of  official status in Canada with an Official (Diplomatic) Acceptance letter from Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
  • Other Visas: Applicant must verify if additional visas are required to enter or transit through countries en route to and from The Bahamas. All required visas must be obtained prior to the submission of application. The expiry date of the visas should be valid after return date from The Bahamas
  • Colour Photograph: Two U.S. Visa-sized photographs, taken within 6 months of the application.
  • Courier Envelope: A pre-paid courier envelope to return your document(s) to the applicant(s).

Once ALL of the requested items have been submitted, it will take the High Commission at least 14 working days to process a visa. Processing time does not include return courier delivery time.

Tourist Visa

Foreign officials, diplomatic staff members of diplomatic/consular missions and international organizations accredited to Canada, and government officials who are travelling for personal reasons MUST apply for a tourist visa.
