BLUE SKY POLICY

June 20, 2019

His Excellency Alvin Alfred Smith, High Commissioner of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas to Canada and Minister Garneau signed the new Canada-Bahamas air transport agreement.

This agreement allows any number of air carriers from either country to operate passenger and cargo flights as frequently as desired between both countries, which supports increased tourism and trade. The signing is an important step in the Canadian ratification process of the new agreement.
This agreement is Canada’s first bilateral air transport agreement with The Bahamas. In the past, these commercial air services were governed by the 1949 Canada-UK air transport agreement, due to The Bahamas’ status as a UK Overseas Territory until 1973.
Under the Blue Sky Policy, the Government of Canada has concluded new or expanded air transport agreements covering more than 100 countries. For more information, please visit: www.tc.gc.ca/bluesky
